For those of you who are new to the blog: ten years ago, when I was fifteen, my 24 year old sister and 21 year old brother moved to Colorado. My sister went first, and six months later, my brother followed. Three years after that, I applied to CU Boulder because I was absolutely moving there too – just as soon as I was old enough. I got into CU but decided to go to school in Newport, RI. As much as I wanted to follow them, the truth was, I was different. We’ve all been flying east to west, west to east as often as possible ever since.
Anyone who knows me, knows it’s a really big deal when we are together. Whether it’s all three of us, or only two at a time, I always have a countdown going, a flight booked or their arrival date on my calendar. In the spring, I remember telling Jaime how far away September felt. When I walked into the bar on the night of our engagement, and saw them sitting there – I have never cried so much from happiness. It was the biggest surprise – aside from the proposal. James had told them in May that he was proposing and flew them out to be there. Can you even stand it?
Anyway, September finally came and mom, Jaime and I boarded the ferry to Block Island on Thursday and stayed on until Saturday. Last year was our first time on the island and we thought we saw everything. Somehow, this year was even better. If you’re going – week days after Labor Day seem to be perfect. It’s quiet, everything is on sale and the weather is gorgeous – 60s and 70s and mostly sunny. We visited last year’s favorite spots but added quite a few new places to our list – tried new restaurants, new shops, the movie theater, the farmer’s market and even paddle boarded. It was awesome. See below for details and links to the best of the best.
